Summer hair care for kids
This gorgeous weather and the half-term have bought up the hot topic of summer hair care for kids. Missie gnot has been especially popular – I suspect swimming lessons have begun for the summer term and with the summer holidays coming up, kids’ hair is about to take a beating!
Speaking purely from personal experience, and in particular my daughter’s hair, I prefer to use as few products as possible. Brushing her hair daily – morning and night, she has strong and knot-free hair most of the time, and having it up for school during the week ensures it stays reasonably healthy. So, when summer holidays arrive, we have a change of lifestyle and viola – we have summer hair!
She still brushes it morning and night, but she doesn’t keep it up as often, so with running around and the everyday pollutants we have in the air, her hair can become rather dry and knotty. So, once a week, after a shampoo, I leave the conditioner in her hair for about 20 mins. After that, the key is to ensure all of the conditioner is washed out. It’s very easy to give it a quick rinse and go – but getting it all out ensure the hair does not remain “greasy” when dry. The conditioner softens the hair and helps with brushing when wet or dry, it’s not a hair mask – that’s a totally different product altogether.
When we go on holiday and she is swimming in the ocean, the salt water is so affecting – so for this I use a Leave-In Conditioner. I can’t drop brand names, but I can say, don’t use supermarket brands for this – go to the hairdresser. This is where you can purchase a better quality of conditioner and it will last longer.
More importantly, don’t forget the hairbrush wherever you go! Our missie gnot hairbrush is as tough as nails, so can travel anywhere and the bristles will not bend like plastic hairbrushes do. Two tips for summer hair care for kids is – brush daily and condition often!
